For the last couple of weeks, I have been sharing about our Christian identity. As citizens of a new country, sort of speak, we inherit a whole new set of rights and privileges, along with a whole new way of doing things! It is just like an individual who moves from Europe to America and becomes a citizen of the United States . There are many different laws and customs that the person needs to learn in order to function successfully in his or her new adopted country.
As citizens of heaven, Christians need to learn the laws and customs of God’s kingdom in order to take full advantage of what is now theirs to freely partake off. This is a lifetime pusuit, and while Colossians 2:10 says that we are complete in Christ, it is imperative that we learn exactly what “complete” includes! Our Heavenly Father in His goodness has made this task entirely simple.
Colossians 2:3 states that “(Jesus) is the key that opens all the hidden treasures of God’s wisdom.” (Good News Bible – parenthesis mine) So what must we do? We need to seek out and get to know the Key! The Apostle John told of the map that shows us the way to the treasure chest. John 1:1 says “In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, the Word was God.” (Gods Word ©) In verse 14 he openly declares this Word to be Jesus, the Son of God. And… that brings us full circle back to the importance of us family members knowing the contents of our Bibles, in order to know what our Father has provided for us.
Remember too, that this is not just some dry old reading material written thousands of years ago. Hebrews 4:12 says that “God’s word is living and active.” (Gods Word ©) When you sit down with your Bible, you are sitting down for a personal teaching time with Jesus! Do you recall Romans 8:15 where it talks about this “adventurously expectant” lifestyle that makes us want to excitedly cry out “what’s next Papa?” (The Message Bible) Well, I can guarantee that Jesus is just as excited, if not more, to spend time alone with you each day!
Can you imagine the fun the two of you will have? Wow… I can’t wait! I’m going to finish this up so I can go spend some time with Him right now! Stay tuned and keep asking yourself… “What Great New and EXCITING things am I expecting today?”
