Oh what a glorious day! When I awoke this morning the sun was shinning brightly, the sky was a wonderful shade of pacific blue and the air was cool and crisp with the thermometer hovering around 43 degrees. With my cup of steaming hot coffee in hand, the dog and I stepped out into our patio, looked up and just absorbed the joy of the new day!
Psalm 118:24 triumphantly declares that “This is the day that the Lord has made. Let’s rejoice and be glad today!” The preceding verse actually tells us why we should rejoice. It says that “The Lord is responsible for this, and it is amazing for us to see.” (Both verses from the Gods Word © translation) While it is true that these verses can be used as encouragement for each new day, they are actually based on a more auspicious event. They are talking about Jesus’ finished work and the ushering in of the church age, that we are all a vital part of today!
Think about that. We are living in a day like none other in the history of the world. As the Psalmist prophesied “it is AMAZING for us to see!” It is literally the time of when heaven’s representatives are living upon the earth… and those representatives are you and me! As Believers we are part of the body of Christ, and we are here to work with Him in accomplishing his AMAZING activities TODAY!
The word translated “amazing” in the Gods Word translation is translated “marvelous” in the King James Version. In the original Hebrew the word means to be "marvelous, extraordinary, wonderful and to be beyond one’s (natural) power." It’s definitely describing the good things of God that we are to expect to happen everyday in our lives! Talk about having a reason to wake up each day with a shout of joy on your lips and a skip in your step! I once read where the great evangelist Smith Wigglesworth said that he danced before the Lord for ten minutes every morning when he got up!
Wow! This puts a whole new emphasis into my understanding of the Psalmist words “This the day that the Lord has made. Let’s rejoice and be glad today!” How about you? How are you responding to his encouragement and statement of this Good News? Stay tuned and keep asking yourself… “What Good, and Rejoiceful Things am I expecting today?”
