What Day Is It?

I Thessalonians 5:5 in the King James Version reads that we are “the children of light, and the children of the day…” Yesterday I related that verse to being enlightened by the Word and the Holy Ghost.  Today I wanted to take a slightly different track and look at it from the particular “day” that Paul may have been referring to.  John Gill in his Exposition of the Entire Bible says that this is talking about “the Gospel day, in distinction from the night of Jewish darkness.”  He is saying that we are now living in the age of the dispensation of the Good News of Jesus Christ.

It is a time when we as Christians can expect the good things of His new and better covenant.  Hebrews 8:6 says that “he (Jesus) is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises.”  (KJV)  It is the time for us to receive and walk within the privileges and benefits of the salvation of our spiritual man as well as for our physical man.  It is the time for believers to have their days multiplied and walk “as the days of heaven upon the earth.”  (Deuteronomy 11:21 KJV)

That’s why the Gospel message is literally called The Good News!  Jesus said that He came that we might have life more abundantly.  (See: John 10:10) That is what we should be expecting everyday of our lives.  Yes, we may occasionally go through tough times, but He is ALWAYS there to help us through and to provide us with whatever we need to move on to victory.  That is the GOOD NEWS that we need to keep continually in our sights.  His BEST is what we should always come to EXPECT.

Okay… I’m ready for the day.  How about you!  After all, “if God be for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31 KJV)  Stay tuned and keep asking yourself… “What GOOD THINGS am I STILL expecting today?”
