“Here in Your presence, we are undone
Here in Your presence, Heaven and Earth become one
Here in Your presence, all things are new
Here in Your presence, everything bows before You? *
As I sat with spoon in hand helping my wife with her cereal this morning, my far away thoughts were suddenly brought nigh as the worshipful chorus to the song “Here in Your Presence” floated through the living room speakers into my ears and right down to my heart! Psalm 31:20 talks about “the secret place of Your presence,” and in that instant I was drawn into His secret place in the midst of the Holy of Holies.
The words of the song came true before my spiritual eyes as heaven and earth seemed like one to me. Suddenly all things became new. The tiredness, the headache, the heartache of the situation, the waning determination to see this thing through to TOTAL victory all seemed to become of no consequence. The problems of life seemed like nothing and all expectation was refreshed and became as new in His presence. Everything that I was facing at that very moment bowed before Him. The sense of peace, joy and relief was overwhelming.
… And then in another moment I was back at the table, following through with the motion I was making with that spoon, filled with a new zeal for life and revitalized passion for my wife. Maybe I need to add another line to the chorus of that song. It begins with saying “Here in Your presence, we are undone,” I would now end it with a footnote proclaiming “All things are renewed after being with You!”
The “secret place of His presence” is open for everyone who calls on the name of Jesus. It is available 24/7, and can be reached from any location on the face of the earth. All it takes is for us to stop what we are so busily doing and take a moment away with Him. Stay tuned and keep asking yourself… “What am I expecting today?”
