Okay, Okay! Give me just one more day to boast about God’s definition of “good.” I started out my personal study this morning reviewing I Peter 1:2 and then spent the next thirty minutes analyzing the last phrase in that awe inspiring verse. In his salutation the Apostle Peter makes the audacious statement: “May ‘good will’ (or grace) and peace fill your lives.” (Gods Word ©)
Of course it was the words “good will”, that some other translations interpret as “grace”, that caught my attention. I believe this to be an accurate rendering since God’s grace is His “good will” toward mankind. So then, think back a couple days about our discussion of God’s thoughts concerning His creation, as He reviewed His completed work in Genesis 1:31. He said that the results were “very good.” In that posting ("Breath Taking!" 6/29/11), I proposed that this statement summarized our Heavenly Father’s definition of “good.”
If you recall, “very good” meant that the subject described by those words (in this case: the creation), was spectacular, overwhelming to the senses, and able to give the recipient quite a rush! It is an awe inspiring, forceful (to the senses) power to be reckoned with!
Now, add those descriptions to God’s will for our lives and you are looking at a greater, more spectacular level of blessing than we could ever imagine with our natural senses! That is what Peter is praying for his readers (and they include you and I). I received the revelation that this would be similar in effect to a tsunami blessing rolling over the land mass of our lives, taking out everything destructive to our day that stood in its path! And did you know that a tsunami (also known as a “tsunami wave train”) isn’t just a single wave, but a series of waves that strike as the mass of water is displaced.
That vividly describes the “good will” or grace of God taking affect in our lives. Again, it is an awe inspiring, powerful force of good things overwhelming our lives. Wow! Meditate on that truth and let it begin to guide your thoughts and plans for your daily life!
Proverbs 3:5-6 in the Message Bible says to “Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track (or make your paths smooth).”
My recommendation to you? Do this verse and then EXPECT the “good will” of our Heavenly Father, as we have described it, to explode in your life! Have a power-packed weekend as you stay tuned (to His "good will") and keep asking yourself… “What (GOOD THINGS) am I expecting today?”
