Total Dependence

We’re off later today to embark upon another visit to Piper’s new specialist in the City by the Bay.  I’m not totally sure what to expect from this appointment.  I’m bringing some reports on a new area of research and potential treatment for Dementia that a cousin of mine had sent to me.  It will be interesting to see what the Doctor says about it.  All in all, I have come to realize that the scientific research and knowledge of this disease is still very much in the infancy stage.  Medical science does not really have a handle on its causes and treatments.

To my way of thinking (now hear me out!), this could be a good thing for my faith.  Huh?  What are you talking about?  Well, I once read where the great evangelist Smith Wigglesworth had said in the early 1900’s, that it would become progressively more difficult to build up people’s faith for healing because of the growth of medical remedies that were becoming available. He could foresee the people’s trust turning from God and His Word to that of medical science.

Now, don’t get me wrong!  I am not bad mouthing medical science.  I have great respect for doctors and the amount of training and dedication that they posses.  But no matter how great a doctor’s care, as a Christian our faith needs to be first and foremost founded in the truth of God’s Word and in His unlimited abilities as “the Lord that healeth thee.”  (Exodus 15:26 King James Version)

So… since there is no natural cure for Dementia, I am therefore set free from fighting the temptation to put any of my faith into the human sphere.  As I mentioned in previous posts, I will continue to follow the doctors suggestions, and work with them on new treatments in order to lessen the symptoms that are afflicting my wife’s health, until such a time as she receives the full visible manifestation of the healing from God.  Yes, this has been the toughest test in our lives, but it has also been one of the most exciting times too!  Day by day we get to see the glorious power, ability and love of God at work in a very up close and personal way.  Sometimes even the smallest scent of a victory during the day can send us into a shouting session of praise, worship and thanksgiving to our Heavenly Father.

You know… I think that this is precisely the place that He wants all of us to be at, no matter what the circumstances in our lives are.  Be they good or trying.  He wants our TOTAL and COMPLETE dependence to be set on Him.  And I for one am happy to oblige Him.  How about you?  Stay tuned and keep asking yourself… “What GREAT things am I expecting today?”
