Last night when I
first got into bed, I began to think about all the things that had happened
over the last three or four weeks. My
kids from Oklahoma had come and gone. We spent hours in meaningful conversation and
fellowship catching up on all the time since we had last been together. They shared many of their hopes, dreams and
plans for the near future and I shared some of mine with them. We also talked a lot about their Mom, how
they felt that she looked better than she did at JoAnna’s wedding last
September, about her physical, emotional and spiritual care and about the way
that people around her were responding to the whole situation. Then this last weekend I had spoken in depth
with a good friend who lives out of state, as well as spending nearly three
hours on the phone with our oldest daughter in North Carolina . Previous
to this we had also enjoyed the company of my good buddy and his family from Colorado .
All of that time
and conversation provided great encouragement and stimulus for me. It also allowed me to give some input into
the lives of those who are very special to me.
Being in direct contact with my family and close friends who are like in
Spirit was very therapeutic. It helped
to strengthen my resolve as we continue to seek the Lord’s direction for the
next step in our lives. With the Olympic
games going on, the Lord gave me the picture of a Long Jumper landing in the
sand. It is very important for the
contestant to always fall forward and not backward. The backward motion will erase your forward
progress and penalize your score.
The Lord told me
that it was the same for us. In the
walking out of His plan for us, He encouraged me to make great effort to assure
that we are not taking any backward steps as it would definitely hinder the
forward direction He is calling us to go.
Our concentrated time with family and friends came in a pivotal time
after the ministry decisions and move that we made back in June of this year. After getting over the quietness around the
house with everyone being gone last week, I now am beginning to feel like that
Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport sports car that was clocked at 201.7 miles an
hour at the Mojave Mile speed event for cars and motorcycles held in Southern
California earlier this year!
How about you? Has this summer acted as a tune up for you
for this coming year and the events that the Lord has planned for you? If not, there is still a little time left to get
together with those of like Spirit to encourage and stimulate each other. Gather with those you love and trust around
the Word of God. Colossians 3:16 tells us to “Let Christ’s word with all its wisdom and richness live in you. Use psalms, hymns and spiritual songs to
teach and instruct yourselves about God’s kindness. Sing to God in your hearts.” (God’s Word ©)
Enjoy the rest of
the summer and remember to always keep all your motion going in a forward
direction! Stay in tune to His Word and
keep asking yourself… “What am I
expecting today?”
