Rivers of Living Water

When I was helping my wife to bed one night over the weekend, I saw something in her that I haven’t seen for a while.  It was that bright sparkle in her eyes that just seems to radiate from deep inside.  As I conversationally spoke some scriptures to her, she suddenly nodded her head in agreement to what I was saying and when she followed that up with a slight smile I saw the ray of light.  That made me stop and sit back on my hunches and all I could say was “WOW!”
When the amazement settled, I exclaimed to her that “your sparkle is coming back!”  That comment brought me back to 1970 when Piper and a friend sat behind me in our high school English class.  I think that it was the first time that I really took serious notice of her… and it was that uncanny brightness in her eyes that drew me to her.  It was like nothing else that I had ever seen before.  It was almost as if her eyes were speaking to me.
As I sat there contemplating all this the other night, I suddenly understood that it was the rivers of living water that were flowing deep inside of her.  Jesus taught us in John 7:38 saying “Streams of living water will flow from deep inside within the person who believes in me.” (God’s Word ©)  I also understood that night that those rivers of living water were rushing throughout her body perfecting a healing and a cure in her.
Then the Lord reminded me of the personal translation of Malachi 4:2 that He had given me for Piper some time ago as He encouraged me by declaring: “I the Son of Righteousness has arisen with healing in my wings for Piper, burning off the fog of confusion that the dementia had released into her mind.”  Then He made me laugh when He finished the scripture adding, “and she will go out and leap as a calf that has been let out of a stall!”  Instantly I pictured my care-free wife dancing around the house as she celebrated that which the Lord has done for her!  And then, being as she was never one to feel inhibited by what others thought about her, I pictured her dancing right out the door and in to the middle of our apartment community parking lot!
Do your eyes allow the rivers of living water that are flowing deep inside to shine forth from you?  I was texting back and forth with one of my cousins last night as she had sent me a picture of Piper taken at a special event at her home many years back.  In the course of our conversation she mentioned that Piper was “always so sweet and forgiving” to her when others around her were judgmental.  I really believe that Piper just had so much overflow of those rivers of life that she couldn’t help but be loving and accepting of others!
That is something that I have always attained for.  Have you reached that place in your Christian walk?  When people see you are they unexplainably drawn to you?  What exactly do your eyes say about you?  Something to think about wouldn’t you say?  I know that I desire my eyes to sparkle with the goodness and positive expectations of His love, His power and His ability to make others feel accepted when in my presence.  Have a great week.  Stay in tune to His Word, and keep asking yourself… “What or Whom am I expecting to DRENCH with His rivers of living water today?
