On Sunday the Pastor talked a little about King David and
how he arguably could be considered the greatest king who ever lived. He was known to have a heart for God yet made
many mistakes throughout his long and profitable life. David had a passion for life and stove to
excel for the kingdom of God. There were
times when that natural passion got him in trouble, but he never backed down from
God’s plan and purpose for his life. He honestly
and humbly went to God, repented, lived through the repercussions of his
mistakes, learned his lessons and moved on.
2 Timothy 2:8 encourages us to “never forget that Jesus Christ has risen from the dead and is a
descendant of David…” (1912 Weymouth New Testament) I believe that Paul was trying to tell us to
remember that Jesus is alive and well and is actively overseeing His covenant,
His last will and testament right now, in the today of our daily lives – just like He did every day, in every step
forward that David took.
2Timothy 2:1 tells us to “find your source of strength in the kindness (or grace) of Christ
Jesus.” (God’s Word ©) According to
Robert’s Word Pictures the word translated strength
literally means to “keep on being
empowered” or to “keep in touch with
the power.” So through this you can
see that this is to be a continual progressive process in our lives. It is a new and current empowerment from God
that builds upon the foundation and our experiences from the day before!
In simple terms… this means that we should never sit
still in our journey for accomplishing the projects for God in our lives. If we were to stop, we will get passed by and
fall behind! And believe-you-me there
are plenty of opportunities that arise that will try and get you to want to stop
going on… Just like the foggy morning
attempted to put a damper on my warm weather enthusiasm this morning!
So, what will it be?
Will you go on like King David and live your life with a passion and
zest, not being afraid of the very real possibilities of a failure or two along
the way, or sit back and rest on your laurels like King Solomon, get
distracted, fall behind and end up in trouble and depressed?
Remember, Jesus is there to help you with a fresh
empowering each day to live like David did!
That’s the way I aim to go! And I
think you do too! Have a super day. Stay in tune to His Word, and keep asking
yourself… “What am I expecting today?”
